In celebration of this special year, AzNA wishes to recognize Arizona nurses who have made a significant contribution to the profession.

Phoenix Visiting Nurses Association

 

One of the earliest American nurse theorists, Martha Rogers, established the Visiting Nurses Service of Phoenix, Arizona in 1943. Dr. Rogers early nursing practice was in rural public health nursing in Michigan and in visiting nurse supervision, education and practice in Connecticut. Her publications include three books and more than 20 articles. She lectured in 46 states and around the world. Dr. Rogers' Science of Unitary Human Beings is used as a conceptual framework in courses of study.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated 2020 as the "Year of the Nurse and Midwife" in honor of the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale.
