John Erlen: In Memoriam
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. John Erlen this past week. He was the lifeblood of the C.F. Reynolds Medical History Society for over 30 years, serving as the secretary, treasurer, scheduler, and host. Details of the visitation on Monday are in the funeral home obituary linked here; the funeral and interment will be private. There will also be an obituary in the Sunday edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and a notice in the Louisville, KY, paper.
It is too bad that he did not live long enough to hear our final lecture for the academic year, in which Dr. William Simmons describes his "Journey to Medicine" as a path-breaking African-American anesthesiologist.
